Interview with Elaine di Biase, Fashion Designer

My heartfelt advice to my clients is to not follow trends too much, but to choose a dress that is perfect for their figure, which makes them feel comfortable an

Question: Elaine, tell us, what are the new trends for wedding dresses this year?

Answer: Actually, the wedding dress is very much tied to the personality and physique of the person wearing it. As a trend, we are returning to separates (top + skirt), while regarding fabrics, we range from lighter and more impalpable ones to more structured ones, depending on the chosen dress. A lot of space is dedicated to bows and flowers in rigid fabric.

Question: What is the added value in going to a bridal designer compared to a ready-made dress?

Answer: The most important thing is to have a personalized choice, following and enhancing the physical characteristics of the future bride. A bridal designer will know how to best interpret the mood of the event that the wedding planner is designing, creating harmony between the setting and the dress.

Question: What are the most popular and innovative accessories that a bride can wear on her wedding day?

Answer: It's always important to consider the type of event: if it's a civil wedding, feel free to use more extravagant accessories such as fascinators, hats, and headbands, while for a traditional wedding, high-quality French lace veils of various shapes and sizes (e.g., veil with a hood, veil with cuffs, etc.) are preferred.

Question: Should a bride wear glasses or not?

Answer: It would be preferable not to wear glasses, neither sunglasses nor prescription glasses, but it depends very much on the context: on the beach, at an informal wedding, sunglasses can add a touch of charm.

Question: When is it advisable to choose more than one dress?

Answer: It depends a lot on the context of the wedding and the type of dress chosen for the ceremony. If you opt for a princess-style dress, it might be uncomfortable to wear it all day, especially if you intend to dance late into the night; in this case, it's better to choose a second, more comfortable dress, without sacrificing femininity and elegance.

Question: How should you choose makeup and hairstyle in relation to the dress?

Answer: The relationship between the bridal designer and the hair stylist is essential to assess the best hairstyle to match the dress, its colors, and style. As for the hairstyle, it greatly depends on the accessories the bride will wear on her wedding day: if she wants to wear a traditional veil, it will be necessary to design a hairstyle that prevents the veil from being too close to the face.

Question: Any particular advice for the bouquet?

Answer: Certainly, the bouquet should be chosen in relation to the type of dress, especially regarding its shape and size: I usually prefer a round bouquet with a princess dress, while for a more linear dress, a cascading bouquet is possible. The size of the bouquet should always be considered in relation to the bride's height.

Question: To conclude: what advice would you give to a bride-to-be who has to choose her wedding dress?

Answer:

Considering the various styles of dresses and the type of ceremony chosen by the future spouses, I always advise choosing a dress that enhances the bride's physique, the quality of the materials, respecting elegance and refinement. My heartfelt advice to my clients is to not follow trends too much, but to choose a dress that is perfect for their figure, which makes them feel comfortable and, above all, beautiful!
